What say does the “Creative Class” have regarding reuse and the city? Where do the responsibilities of government, activists, and mediators converge? Should we find methods to appreciate the past, or redefine our present? How can a search for content reflect the demand for a more active, meaningful society?

NL | Een doorlopend project gericht op een nieuwe invulling van het begrip ‘herbestemming’ in de stad Eindhoven
Het project Instatements wil een doorlopende reeks inventarisaties, discussies en acties faciliteren gericht op het creëren van nieuwe relaties tussen gebouwen en straten, bewoners en nieuwkomers, planners en gebruikers, oud en nieuw in het centrum van Eindhoven. Door algemeen aanvaarde vormen van herbestemming te onderzoeken via uiteenlopende formats streeft dit project naar een collectieve heroriëntatie op toekomstige scenario’s die voorzien in tijdelijk hergebruik en flexibele aanpassing van kneedbare ruimtes als onderdeel van haalbare, duurzame oplossingen voor een werkelijke betrokkenheid bij de stad.
Voor de Dag van de Architectuur (26-27 juni 2010) nodigt Instatements een aantal geselecteerde spelers uit de disciplines design, kunst, studie van het industrieel erfgoed en architectuur uit om op te treden als ‘knutselaars’ die verschillende methoden en technieken mogen uitproberen en vermengen om te komen tot een formulering of gedeeltelijke formulering van een reeks voorstellen voor het centrum van Eindhoven en zijn bewoners. Ter begeleiding hiervan wordt een doorlopend, online en fysiek archief opgezet met verhalen, geschiedenissen en documenten over het gebied; bewoners en bezoekers worden uitgenodigd dit te lezen en eraan bij te dragen. Deze presentatie vormt het startschot voor een programma dat de rest van het jaar doorloopt.
De presentatie op 26 en 27 juni vindt plaats in La Cittá Mobile, Eindhoven, en andere locaties in de omgeving van de Irisbuurt: de Schellensfabriek, de Lucas Gasselstraat en meer.
Instatements is een initiatief van architect Uri Ben-Ari in samenwerking met Onomatopee, Eindhoven en Your-space, Van Abbemuseum.
EN | The Instatements project will facilitate an ongoing series of mappings, discussions and actions to create a new set of relationships between buildings and streets, residents and newcomers, planners and users, old and new in the centre of Eindhoven. By investigating accepted forms of adaptive reuse through multiple formats, this project seeks to collectively re-examine future scenarios that instate the possibility of temporary reuse and flexible adaptation of kneedbare ruimtes as part of feasible, sustainable solutions for real city participation.
For Architecture Day, 26-27 June, 2010, Instatements invites a set of selected players from the fields of design, art, industrial heritage studies and architecture to act as “tinkerers” who may experiment and mix different methods and techniques to realise, or partly realise a set of proposals for the centre of Eindhoven and the residents living there. Accompanying this will be an ongoing, open online and physical archive containing stories, histories, and documents about the area, which residents and visitors are invited to read as well as add to. This presentation kick starts a programme which will run for the rest of the year.
The presentation on 26-27 June, 2010 will take place at La Cittá Mobile, Eindhoven and other locations in the neighbourhood of the Irisbuurt – the Schellensfabriek, the Lucas Gasselstraat and more.
